No matter how simple the walls are in design, they reflect an aesthetic language through painting; Wall paint is no longer just a decorative material aimed at hiding surface defects or renovating them. Rather, it has become closely linked to the “mood” of residents who want more and more to express themselves in their homes, in which they are closed for long times.
New in the world of wall painting
About New in the world of wall paintingThe interior designer, Yara Hammoud, speaks to “Madam”, saying that “since last year, there is a clear trend among most people, as a result of the long hours of stay at home, to choose colors that stimulate serenity, so it is not surprising that the following colors are promoted. , in the field of wall paints: calm green and blue, warm yellow, grayish-beige in its various shades, blue-violet and dark blue. She explains about the characteristics of each of the popular wall paint colors, saying that “green or blue is common in the place where it gives a feeling similar to the analgesic effects of nature, and the two mentioned colors represent growth and safety because they relax the eye.” She added, “Despite the general tendency to calm colors, yellow paint is still at the forefront of wall coatings, for the role of the aforementioned color in adding a touch of life and warmth to the house, especially since yellow brings happiness and positivity.”
Violet blue, in turn, is known as a “royal color”, and it is desired to be used in wall coverings, due to the energy that the aforementioned color derives from red and the calming effect on the soul that it obtains from blue.
As for the grayish beige, it mediates between the other colors popular in 2022, according to the engineer, as it is transformed from the broken white, and is effective in adding a touch of modernity to the home.
The idea is starting to fade
On the other hand, the idea of decorating was popular, which called for distinguishing one of the walls in the room by painting it with a paint of a different color from the other walls. About this trend, interior design engineer Rasha Itani, in turn, told “Madam” that “it has started to recede since the beginning of this year, without being completely hidden, as it is related to the model to be implemented.” She explains the reason for the decline of the mentioned trend in the decor, saying that “there is a need to make the interior spaces seem spacious by unifying the colors of the paints on the walls, and avoiding the so-called box-like appearance.”
But the engineer does not block the way for those who want to implement the idea in their homes, and she advises them to take inspiration from the colors that are popular recently in the world of wall painting, according to the following:
- In a room with green walls, one wall can be distinguished by painting it in dusty pink (or white).
- In a room with blue walls, a lighter shade of pink (or a pinkish orange) is appropriate.
- In a room with walls painted “royal blue”, yellow looks perfect for the accent wall.
- In a room with gray beige walls, the décor is complemented by a warm shade of brown (or very light white, or even gray or black).
- In a room with yellow walls, a dark olive green (or light purple or dark blue) accent wall is attractive.
Home décor enthusiasts have a share in the fashion in the world of wall painting, as it is finally easy to create the effects that wallpaper achieves in interior space decorations through the use of decorative paints. The mentioned paints add another extra dimension, compared to the two-dimensional wallpaper. In this context, Engineer Rasha explains that “custom-designed paints create unique finishes in terms of colours, effects and designs on surfaces, as they may make walls appear as if they are covered with cement, wood or terrazzo stone.” She points out that “decorative wall paints represent an economical solution, and they also do not need any kind of maintenance, because they are resistant to scratches, as well as to natural factors.”
Interior designer Rasha Itani enumerates the following four “practical” tips for readers who want to repaint the walls in their homes:
1 Choose a light-colored paint, in case you want to apply the idea of the “distinctive wall” in the decoration.
2 Taking into account the room’s lighting, both natural and artificial, before choosing a paint color.
3 Experiment with paint color on a small spot before implementation.
4 Test the consistency between wall paint and upholstery textures by bringing some fabric samples to a paint store.
